Yarn Along: Can’t Go Wrong with JK and MJ

I’m joining in for another week of the Yarn Along with detective fiction by J.K. Rowling (a.k.a. Robert Galbraith) and a stranded hat by Mary Jane Mucklestone.

The Cuckoo’s Calling is the first of J.K. Rowling’s Cormoran Strike novels, the series she writes under the Robert Galbraith pseudonym. I was in the mood for something especially readable and engaging, and since this had been on my list for awhile, I thought I’d give it a try.  It’s definitely fitting the bill. There are tons of reviews online if you haven’t read it and are interested, so I’ll just say that at a hundred pages in, I’ve already got a soft spot in my heart for Cormoran Strike and his trusty assistant, Robin Ellacott.

The hat is Mary Jane Mucklestone’s Weston Beanie. It’s like a drug, absolutely hypnotic knitting. What else can I say?

Be sure to stop by Ginny Sheller’s Small Things blog for links to what lots of other people are knitting and reading this week.

You can, but you don’t have to. The idea is just that it turns out that a LOT of knitters are also avid readers, and for some reason (personally, I suspect mirror neurons), we love seeing pictures of both books and knitting and especially books and knitting together. Hence, the Yarn Along!

Funny, since I started knitting and crocheting, I don’t read much! I used to be an avid reader of fiction. It doesn’t help that for the past 3 or 4 years, my journeys to work have been on buses – reading on buses is a big no-no for me as I get travel sick. So lots of time wasted! Might give The Cuckoo’s Calling a go next time I do wanna read a novel.. 🙂

I know what you mean! It’s always hard a choice. I tend to read before bed and for a break in the afternoon, and I knit pretty much all the time my hands aren’t busy doing something else, even when I’m reading sometimes. I know a lot of knitters who listen to audiobooks and knit while they’re listening, so that might be an option. Thank you so much for commenting! 🙂

Thank you, Andrea!! I set it aside for Christmas knitting. I should finish that up today, and then I’ll get back to the hat. Thank you for the holiday cheer! Hope you have a wonderful next couple of weeks as well!

Talk to me!
